I have been amazed at how many things my preschooler is memorizing at school. She is like a sponge and learning so much, and luckily, she has a great teacher who is positive and gives them lots of positive things to learn and think about. Why Schools Are Banning Hoodies

It’s not what you think. Schools are not banning the popular hooded sweatshirts because they are sloppy-looking or they promote gang violence. Rather, school administrators in Kansas have put the kibosh on hoodies with large pockets because an inordinate amount of students have been using the sweatshirt’s “kangaroo pocket” to text others during class. According to reports, cell phone and other PDA abuse by students has forced administrators to revamp the school dress code. Some Things Just Need to be Memorized

I have a master’s degree in teaching mathematics. In many and most of my college graduate level courses we discussed the reasoning behind why we do the things that we do, mathematically speaking. The idea is not to teach the children that two times three is six but teach them why by showing the process of addition. All other mathematical concepts were also presented in this way. We kept math journals and recorded our mathematical thinking through difficult word problems and math puzzles. I agree with the concept that children will learn and remember if they understand why. Why Read a Book More Than One Time?

Many young children love to read the same book over and over again. My children will often ask for the same book to be read two or three times consecutively. Children may alternate the story that they wish to be read. They often will choose one book and stick with it for a few nights. They then may change and begin wanting a different book read. Yesterday, I suggested that you work on memorizing (or rememorizing) the scripture mastery verses. You may have asked, why? What is the purpose of memorizing scriptures? I would recommend everyone, from the youth down to retired folks, take the time to memorize some scripture. These verses can come in very handy. We know that the Lord speaks to us through scriptures.
